Carrying Jesus' Body to the Tomb

On the afternoon of Holy Friday, the icon referred to variously as the "Burial Shroud," "Winding Sheet," "Plashchanitsa" or "Epitaphion" is carried out from the altar into the nave, and placed symbolically "in the Tomb." The faithful then prostrate and reverently venerate the crucified Body of Christ in the Tomb, and His saving Passion.
