Our Mission

2000 years ago, Jesus of Nazareth did not merely preach, he chose to establish a Church: He chose certain men to be his apostles, and he blessed them with authority to teach and to bless others. And following Jesus as he commanded, they in turn blessed others to do the same. Jesus said that what they bound on earth shall be bound in heaven.

Through his apostles, Jesus Christ established one, and only one, eternal and unchanging Church – the Orthodox Church – and he promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against it.

That Church is right here in the Triad area!

Many Orthodox churches were established to serve the needs of an immigrant population, and to faithfully transmit and preserve the rich cultural heritage, traditions and language of a specific nation of origin. As a mission of the Orthodox Church in America, however, our mission is to witness to his Truth to all people in the Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point area. We are the only Orthodox church in the Triad area with services entirely in English.

Holy Cross Orthodox Church is a mission of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), under His Eminence Nikon of Boston, New England, and the Albanian Archdiocese, Locum Tenens of the Diocese of the South.

Mission Statement of the Orthodox Church in America

The Mission of the Orthodox Church in America, the local autocephalous Orthodox Church, is to be faithful in fulfilling the commandment of Christ to “Go into all the world and make disciples of all Nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all [things that He has] commanded” so that all people may be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth:

To preach, in accordance with God’s will, the fullness of the gospel of the Kingdom to the peoples of North America and to invite them to become members of the Orthodox Church.

To utilize for her mission the various languages of the peoples of this continent.

To be the body of Christ in North America and to be faithful to the tradition of the Holy Orthodox Church.

To witness to the truth, and by God’s grace and in the power of the Holy Spirit, to reveal Christ’s way of sanctification and eternal salvation to all.
